Closure of UNPOS

The United Nations Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS) completed its Security Council mandate on 3 June 2013. The United Nations continues to provide support to the Somalia Federal Government's peace and reconciliation efforts through the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM), established by Security Council resolution 2101 (2013).

SRSG Mahiga's statement on attempted assassination of Somali journalist

Mogadishu, 09 July 2012 – The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Somalia, Dr. Augustine P. Mahiga condemns in the strongest terms the assassination attempt on Abdulkadir Omar Abdulle, a journalist for Universal television, who was seriously injured on Saturday night when he was shot by two unidentified men near his home in the Wadajir district of Mogadishu.
