United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) in Somalia engages in programmes aimed at strengthening capacities to protect women’s human rights and promote gender equality in the context of conflict, violence, poverty and HIV and AIDS.
Currently, UN Women is responding to issues of women’s economic security and rights, addressing violence against women and how it intersects with HIV and AIDS and also providing support for women advocating political space at the local and national levels. UN Women also works to support the development and capacity of women’s networks and associations.
