A large segment of the Somali population lives outside of the country, with communities concentrated mainly in the Horn of Africa and Yemen, the Gulf States, Western Europe and North America.

 

The Diaspora plays a significant role in the economic, social and political spheres within Somalia and for this reason it is vital to understand their role and to liaise closely with them.

 

The Special Representative for the Secretary-General interacts with the Diaspora through regular letters as well as face to face meetings with a view to engaging their support and participation in advancing the peace process in Somalia.
