Closure of UNPOS

The United Nations Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS), established on 15 April 1995, supported the Federal Government’s peace and reconciliation efforts. Its mandate ended on 3 June 2013, with its responsibilities transferred to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).

Mogadishu, 02 August 2012 – The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Somalia, Dr. Augustine P. Mahiga condemns in the strongest terms the killing of the prominent Somali comedian and media worker Abdi Malaq Jeylani, also known as "Marshale" on 31 July, in front of his house in Mogadishu.
