Closure of UNPOS
The United Nations Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS) completed its Security Council mandate on 3 June 2013. The United Nations continues to provide support to the Somalia Federal Government's peace and reconciliation efforts through the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM), established by Security Council resolution 2101 (2013).

UNPOS intensifies its efforts to establish its political footprints in Somalia following a round of high level consultations in Somaliland with a delegation led by UNPOS Deputy SRSG.
In Puntland, the security situation continues to deteriorate with reports of incendiary devices exploding in the region as well as high level assassinations.
In Mogadishu, heavy fighting resumes after a period of calm between Islamists fighters and AMISOM troops. Fighting between Al-Shabab and TFG troops is reported near Baidoa.
