Closure of UNPOS

The United Nations Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS), established on 15 April 1995, supported the Federal Government’s peace and reconciliation efforts. Its mandate ended on 3 June 2013, with its responsibilities transferred to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).

SRSG Mahiga on the opening of the National Constituent Assembly

Mogadishu, 25 July 2012 – The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Somalia, Dr. Augustine P. Mahiga, today called on all Somali people to participate fully and peacefully in the remaining political processes that will facilitate the end of the transition by 20 August 2012. The SRSG made these comments as the 825-member National Constituent Assembly (NCA) convened in Mogadishu to discuss, vote on, and adopt a new Provisional Constitution.
