Closure of UNPOS

The United Nations Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS), established on 15 April 1995, supported the Federal Government’s peace and reconciliation efforts. Its mandate ended on 3 June 2013, with its responsibilities transferred to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).

SRSG Mahiga discounts allegations against Somali police recruits in Djibouti

Nairobi, 24 February 2011 – Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General Ambassador Augustine P. Mahiga, today discounted allegations made in the media by Daher Ahmed Farah of the Djiboutian opposition, that Somali police trainees in Djibouti had a hand in suppressing protestors in a recent demonstration there. The police trainees are sponsored by the United Nations with Japanese Funding, with several of the trainers from the African Union. [English][Somali]
