Closure of UNPOS

The United Nations Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS), established on 15 April 1995, supported the Federal Government’s peace and reconciliation efforts. Its mandate ended on 3 June 2013, with its responsibilities transferred to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).

SRSG expresses shock at murder of Radio Mogadishu journalist

Nairobi, 6 May 2010 – The UN Special Representative for Somalia, Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah, has said he is deeply shocked by the murder of the veteran journalist, Sheikh Nur Mohamed Abkey, by armed men in Mogadishu. The journalist, who was working for Radio Mogadishu, was killed on Tuesday, one day after World Press Freedom Day. [English][Somali]
