Closure of UNPOS

The United Nations Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS), established on 15 April 1995, supported the Federal Government’s peace and reconciliation efforts. Its mandate ended on 3 June 2013, with its responsibilities transferred to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).

New York, 21 June 2011 – The Security Council met to consider the situation in Somalia, focusing on the Secretary-General's Report on the modalities for establishing specialized Somali anti-piracy courts, which is based on a detailed study of the issue by Jack Lang, Special Adviser on Legal Issues Related to Piracy off the Coast of Somalia.
