Closure of UNPOS

The United Nations Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS), established on 15 April 1995, supported the Federal Government’s peace and reconciliation efforts. Its mandate ended on 3 June 2013, with its responsibilities transferred to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).

President Sheikh Sharif and the Speaker of the Parliament reach an agreement

Kampala, 09 June 2011 – The President of the Transitional Federal Government and the Speaker of the Transitional Federal Parliament met in Kampala, Uganda under the auspices of H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the facilitation of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Somalia, Ambassador Augustine P. Mahiga to address the issues and agree on the way forward to bringing to an end the transition in a spirit of cooperation and harmony in accordance with the Djibouti Agreement and in line with the Transitional Federal Charter.
