Closure of UNPOS

The United Nations Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS), established on 15 April 1995, supported the Federal Government’s peace and reconciliation efforts. Its mandate ended on 3 June 2013, with its responsibilities transferred to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).

A Memorandum of Undertanding has been signed by UNPOS, IGAD and AMISOM

Nairobi, 28 April 2010 – UNPOS, the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that aims at facilitating the Djibouti Peace Agreement of August 2008. The MOU was signed in Nairobi between SRSG Ahmadou Ould-Abdallah, IGAD Special Envoy Kipruto Kirwa and AU Special Representative for Somalia Boubacar Gaoussou Diarra.
