Closure of UNPOS

The United Nations Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS), established on 15 April 1995, supported the Federal Government’s peace and reconciliation efforts. Its mandate ended on 3 June 2013, with its responsibilities transferred to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).

Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) facilitates the delivery of humanitarian assistance to populations and communities in need.

OCHA also:
  • coordinates effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors in order to alleviate human suffering in natural disasters and complex emergencies;
  • promotes preparedness and prevention efforts to reduce future vulnerability; and
  • facilitates sustainable solutions by addressing root causes; advocate for the rights of people in need.
