Closure of UNPOS
The United Nations Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS) completed its Security Council mandate on 3 June 2013. The United Nations continues to provide support to the Somalia Federal Government's peace and reconciliation efforts through the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM), established by Security Council resolution 2101 (2013).

The Security Council, under the Chinese presidency, holds an open debate, with 38 speakers and briefings by the Secretary-General, the Somali prime minister and the AU. The Council adopts a presidential statement stressing the need for a comprehensive strategy on Somalia and calls for further action in the areas of political process, including on post-transitional arrangements; security and support for AMISOM; humanitarian assistance; protection of civilians; socioeconomic development; counter-terrorism; and counter-piracy efforts.
