24 August 2010
An armed attack on the Muna Hotel, situated in the Hardaweyne District of Mogadishu, kills 34 people including six members of the Somali parliament, five government officials and many civilians. Al-Shabab claims responsibilities for the attack.

Al-Shabab Administration for Banadir takes over the control of local FM of IQK/Holy Quran Radio in Mogadishu.

The deployment of an additional Ugandan Battalion – 900 troops plus support troops starts.

An explosion in Mogadishu's Bar Ubax locality claims the lives of 10 foreign combatants as they were preparing a vehicle packed with explosives meant to target AMISOM.  Six of the fatalities were from Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Algeria, while the other four were senior al-Shabab officials.

A court in Boosaaso jails Abdifatah Jama Mire, Director of Horseed Media, for six years with a fine of $500 for airing an interview with Sheikh Muhammad Sa'id Atam whose militia is fighting Puntland forces.
