Somali Prime Minister, Muhammad Abdullahi Muhammad “Farmajo” resigns officially from his position. His Deputy, Abdiweli Muhammad Ali is appointed as acting Prime Minister.

The International Contact Group (ICG) on Somalia holds its 19th meeting in Kampala and issues a communiqué appealing to the authorities of the TFG to settle the difference between them otherwise the TFG will lose the support provided to them by the International Community.

Members of the UN Security Council visit Nairobi to hold detailed discussions on the future of Somalia. During the visit, the Members emphasized the concern of the International Community over the divisions between the leadership and urged all sides to work together and come to an agreement on the timing and form of elections.

SRSG Mahiga addresses the Security Council noting the lack of unity and understanding on how to proceed towards ending the transition.  The most decisive issue, he says, is the disagreement over election issues between the TFIs.

SRSG Mahiga updates the 273th meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council (AUPSC) in Addis Ababa reporting on the continued political paralysis in the TFG, between the Government  and Parliament, and asks for their support in breaking the deadlock.

A High Level Consultative meeting hosted by UNPOS is held in Nairobi on 12 and 13 April 2011.  The meeting is boycotted by President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and the Prime Minister, but is attended by Speaker of Parliament Sharif Hassan Sheikh Aden and the Presidents of Puntland and Galmadug, representatives’ from Ahlu Sunna wal Jamaa (ASWJ) and observers from the international community and regional organizations.
