The Deputy Secretary-General remarks to Second London Conference on Somalia

London, 7 May 2013 - I offer best wishes for success, on behalf of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, to the co-hosts and participants of today’s meeting and thank the Government of the United Kingdom for organizing this important conference on Somalia.
What a difference a year can make.

Mogadishu, 5 May 2013 - The Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Dr. Augustine P. Mahiga strongly condemns today’s suicide car bomb attack at Kilometer 4 junction in Mogadishu, in which several people were killed or wounded. The attack apparently targeted a convoy carrying an international delegation.

SRSG Mahiga sends his condolences to the friends and families of the victims and he wishes the wounded speedy recovery. “The UN will continue to support the Government’s efforts to improve security in the country and will not be deterred in supporting the peace building effort in Somalia.” he added.
