SRSG welcomes agreement between the Somali President and Speaker

Nairobi, 09 June 2011  –  The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Somalia (SRSG),  Dr Augustine P. Mahiga, has expressed his satisfaction over the agreement signed by the President of Somalia, Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and the Speaker of Parliament, Sharif Hassan Sheikh Aden, in Kampala under the auspices of the President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda and facilitated by the SRSG. The SRSG said it was a breakthrough in resolving the five month long political impasse in Mogadishu over ending the current transition period and the following political arrangements. SRSG Mahiga discounts allegations against Somali police recruits in Djibouti

Nairobi, 24 February 2011 – Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General Ambassador Augustine P. Mahiga, today discounted allegations made in the media by Daher Ahmed Farah of the Djiboutian opposition, that Somali police trainees in Djibouti had a hand in suppressing protestors in a recent demonstration there.  The police trainees are sponsored by the United Nations with Japanese Funding, with several of the trainers from the African Union. SRSG Mahiga: Transition must end in August

Mahiga, announced that a Special High Level Meeting on Somalia will take place in Addis Ababa on the side lines of the African Union Summit which opened today. Somali Government strengthening its Security Sector with the aid of Japan and UN partners
